How to Print Digital Posters

Buying digital wall art is simpler than it sounds. You choose a print, download a file, take it to a print shop or print it at home, frame it, and hang it. Most people have something on their wall the same day they buy it.

This page walks you through every step — from what you receive after purchase to where to print, what paper to use, and how to hang art in a rental without damaging the walls.

What happens after purchase?

As soon as your order is confirmed, you receive a download link by email. Click it, save the file to your phone or computer, and you’re ready to print. No waiting for shipping. No tracking numbers. Just the file, ready to go.

If you can’t find the email, check your spam folder or log into your account to access your downloads directly.

What file do I receive?

You receive one high-resolution digital poster file at 300 DPI — the standard for professional print quality. The file is sized to print clearly at standard poster dimensions without pixelation or loss of detail.

You receive one file per artwork purchased. If you buy a bundle, you receive one file per artwork included in the bundle.

No physical poster or frame is shipped with a digital download order.

Where can I print my poster?

Anywhere that offers photo or document printing:

  • FedEx Office — reliable, widely available. Upload online or bring a USB drive.
  • Walgreens — convenient, fast turnaround, available in most cities.
  • Staples — good for larger sizes, easy online upload.
  • Mpix — online print service, excellent matte paper quality, ships to your door.
  • Your local print shop — often the best quality. Ask for matte photo paper.
  • At home — if you have a photo printer and matte paper, print immediately after downloading.

Ask for matte photo paper rather than glossy. Matte gives the print a calm, gallery-quality finish that suits Scandinavian wall art well.

What paper should I choose?

Matte photo paper is the best choice for Nordic nature prints. It reduces glare, gives the image a soft finish, and looks more considered than glossy paper.

If your print shop offers a heavyweight matte option (200gsm or above), that’s worth choosing — the print will feel more substantial and hang better in a frame.

What size should I print?

Choose based on your wall space and the frames you have or plan to buy:

  • Above a bed: Two 18×24” side by side, or three 11×14” in a row.
  • Above a sofa: One 24×36” centered, or a cluster of 3–5 smaller prints.
  • Small wall or corner: One 11×14” or A3 in a simple frame.
  • Dorm room: Two or three 8×10” or 11×14” grouped together.
  • Narrow hallway: One tall print (18×24” or A2) in a thin frame.

All Dream Poster files are print-ready for standard US frames (8×10”, 11×14”, 18×24”, 24×36”) and European frames (A4, A3, A2, 50×70cm). Available at IKEA, Target, and Amazon.

How to frame your poster

Simple frames work best. Two options suit most prints:

  • Thin black frame — clean, modern, graphic. Works on white or off-white walls.
  • Natural oak or wood frame — warm, organic. Works well with forest and nature prints.

Avoid ornate or heavy frames. The art should do the work — the frame just holds it.

Most standard frames include a white mat insert. Use it or remove it depending on the look you want. A mat adds breathing room and makes a smaller print feel more considered.

How to hang posters in a rental or dorm

If you can’t put nails in the walls, here are damage-free options:

  • Command strips — most reliable for frames up to a few pounds. Follow the weight instructions.
  • Poster strips — good for lightweight prints without frames.
  • Washi tape — works for very light prints, adds a decorative edge.
  • Leaning — lean a framed print against the wall on a shelf or dresser. No hanging required.

When you move out, take the prints with you. Digital files don’t expire — you can reprint at any size for your next place.
